Dhaka: A man who smuggled eight gold bars inside his rectums was detained by customs officials detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday morning.

The arrestee is Morshed Hossain, in his thirties, a resident of Hathajari upazila in Chittagong.

Director General of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) Dr Moinul Khan said Morshed came to Dhaka from Sharjah by a flight of Air Arabian Airlines that landed at the airport at about 10:00am.

Tipped off, customs officials challenged Morshed while he was crossing the green zone of the airport.

Interrogated, Morshed admitted that he was carrying the eight gold bars hidden those inside his rectum through a special process.
