Patuakhali: A court in Patuakhali on Monday convicted three people and sentenced them to life term imprisonment for killing a minor boy in 2009, reports UNB.

The convicts are Solaiman Fakir, his father Shahjahan Fakir, and mother Anwara Begum of Kalapara upazila. They tried in absentia.

The court also fined them Tk 10,000 each, in default, to suffer six months more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Mobashwer Mridha of Dhulashwar village in Kalapara upazila had an enmity with his neighbour Solaiman Fakir over irrigating water to a watermelon filed.

As a sequel to the enmity, Solaiman Fakir took Shakil, 9, son of Mobashwer Mridha to his home tactfully on 24 April 2009. Later Shakil was found dead near Kauarchar area on the following day.

Shakil’s mother filed a case against three people in this connection.

After examining records and witnesses Patuakhali Additional District and Session Judge Mostafa Pavel Rahman handed down the verdict.
