Dhaka: Rashidun Nabi Bhuiyan, a member of the banned militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), who was arrested by law enforcers from the city’s Sayedabad area on Sunday night, was involved in the killing of online activist Nazimuddin Samad.

Monirul Islam, additional commissioner and chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, came up with the information at a press briefing at DMP media centre on Monday.

During primary interrogation, Rashidun Nabi, son of Abdul Bari Bhuiyan of Langolkot in Comilla, said he joined ABT in 2015. He was also involved in recruiting members and different operations carried out by the team, he said.

He confessed that five people, including Rashid, equipped with sharp weapons and a firearms, took part in the killing mission.

Earlier, a joint team of DB police and CTTC unit conducted a drive in the city’s Sayedabad area and arrested Rashid on Sunday night.

On April 6 last, a group of assailants swooped on Nazimuddin Samad, 28, an organiser of the Ganajagran Manch and a student of Jagannath University (JnU), at Ikrampur of Sutrapur in the capital and hacked and shot him indiscriminately, leaving him dead on the spot.
