Dhaka: Awami League-supported candidate Sayeed Khokan was unofficially declared elected mayor of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) as he defeated his main rival pro-BNP mayoral contender Mirza Abbas with a big margin in Tuesday’s polls.

Returning Officer Mihir Sarwar Morshed announced the results at his Gulistan’s Mahanagar Natyamancha office.

Sayeed Khokon polled 5,35,296 votes while Mirza Abbasa received 2,94,291 votes, according to results came from the 886 centers out of 889. Results of three centers were not announced as voting at those centers were suspended due to various irregularities.

The three centers are South Kamalapur Sher-e-Bangla High School (Centre No 151 and Ward No 8), Shyampur Ashraf Master Ideal High School (Centre No 807 and Ward No 53) and Suritola Primary School (Centre No 563 and Ward No 31).

Mirza Abbas, however, boycotted the election bringing allegations of huge vote rigging.
