Private University teacher found dead in Dhaka
Dhaka: A female teacher of the East West University was found dead at a house in Badda area of Dhaka on early Wednesday.
AL Mamun, sub-inspector of Badda Police Station, said Rabeya Kulsum, 26, a lecturer of the university and daughter of Zahir Ahmed was found dead on the second floor of a five-storey building in Bhuiyabari area where she used to live with one of her female colleagues.
On Tuesday night, Rabeya made a phone call to one of her friends and asked her not to contact her. Later, Rabeya’s friend informed it to Rabeya’s brother Mohammad Sharif, a student of North South University, over phone.
Getting no response from Rabeya’s phone, Sharif went to Rabeya’s apartment and peeped into the room through its window only to see his sister hanging from its ceiling.
Later, Sharif with the help of the caretaker of the building recovered the hanging body of Rabeya, breaking open the door at the dead of night. She was rushed to United Hospital in the city where doctors declared her dead.
On information, police rushed in and sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue at about 4:00am.
Rabeya was alone in her room as her colleague went to an undisclosed place on a leave a few days ago, the SI said.
Besides, Dr Shafiuzzaman, assistant professor of Forensic Department, who conducted the autopsy on Rabeya’s body, said the lecturer committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of the house.
