Twin sisters violently beaten up for protesting harassment
Dhaka: A pair of twin sisters were reportedly beaten up by a restaurant owner and his aides as they protested at being harassed in Dhaka’s Mirpur Zoo Road on Wednesday.
Police arrested one person in connection with the incident, UNB reported.
Police quoting victims’ father said the twins Fariha Habib Mim and Ashowad Habib Zim, two Class XI students of Mirpur BCIC College, were waiting for a bus at Zoo Road near their college at about 11:20am.
At one stage, one Jibon Karim Babu, owner of the nearby Ohona restaurant, started harassing them. As the twin sisters protested, Jiban Karim Babu along with two associates started beating them up with bamboo sticks, said Duty officer of Shah Ali Police Station ASI Shamsul.
Being informed, fellow students and teachers of the institution went to the spot and rescued the twin sisters, said Ahsan Habib, the father of the victims.
They were taken to Orthopaedics hospital, he said.
Protesting the incident, students of the college went out on the Zoo Road and demonstrated demanding arrest of the perpetrators, said Ahsan Habib.
At one stage, the students caught one Lutfar Rahman Babu, a friend of Jiban Karim Babu and handed him to police.
A case was filed with the police station in connection with the incident.
