Dhaka: Awami League on Thursday invited Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Chairperson Khaleda Zia and Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir to join their party’s 20th national council scheduled to be held on 22-23 October.

A five-member delegation, led by Awami League’s deputy office secretary Mrinal Kanti Das, went to BNP’s Nayapaltan central office at about 11:15am and met secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Later, they handed over the invitation cards to him.

The other delegation members are Awami League Central Committee member Aminul Islam, assistant secretary Riazul Kabir Kawser, Hasan Tarique Arif and Anisur Rahman.

Mrinal Kanti said, ‘We have come here to invite BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia and secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and handed over the invitation cards. We hope they’ll join our national council.’
