Not possible to remain party chief forever: PM
Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, also the president of the ruling Awami League, on Sunday said it is not possible to remain party chief forever.
‘I came to the people of Bengal depriving my children of my affection. You showed me respect which is unforgettable. It’s needed to quit before my dignity gets at stake,’ she said.
Hasina, who was elected the Awami League president for the 8th consecutive time, said this in her concluding speech before dissolving the committee on the second day of Awami League’s 20th council at the Institute of Engineers.
‘I think my duty is over. I’ve brought Awami League to power overcoming many hurdles. I’ve discharged my duties bestowed upon me in 1981. I seek pardon if I hurt anyone,’ she added.
After the speech, Sheikh Hasina dissolved the committee.
