ACC arrests Coast Guard official over Tk 70m fund embezzlement
Dhaka: The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) arrested former director of Bangladesh Coast Guard, Mostafizur Rahman, in connection with a Tk 70 million fund embezzlement case from his residence in Dhaka early on Monday.
An ACC team conducted a raid at the house of Mostafizur Rahman and arrested him in the dead of night, said ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya.
Mostafizur was charged for embezzling around a Tk 70million fund meant for purchasing 11,100 tonnes of wheat.
The case was filed against five people, including the ex-director of Bangladesh Coast Guard, with the now defunct Bureau of Anti-Corruption (BAC), in 1998.
Earlier on 29 September, former director general of Bangladesh Coast Guard and BNP leader Shafiq-ur-Rahman was arrested in the same case.
