Dhaka: A court in Dhaka on Monday sentenced two people to death and two others to life term imprisonment for killing Subir Chandra Das, a student of Ahsanullah University of Science and Technology (AUST) in 2013.

The condemned convicts are Farhad Hosain Sizu and Mohammad Hasan, two classmates of Subir. They were tried in absentia, reports UNB.

The lifers, Shafiq Ahmed Robin and Shaon alias Kamrul Hasan, were fined Tk 5,000 each, in default, to suffer one month more in rigorous imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Subir Chandra Das, 22, son of Gouranga Chandra Das, was strangulated to death by the convicts over previous enmity on 21 January 2013.

Subir’s body was found near a brick kiln at Kotalia village in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital, on the following day.

A case was filed with Savar Police Station in this connection. The trial of the case began following the framing of charges against five accused on 11 April last.

After examining the records and witnesses, Dhaka District and Session Judge SM Kuddus Zaman handed down the verdict acquitting Lutfa Akter Sony, wife of Robin, as allegation brought against her was not proved.
