School teacher beaten dead, husband held

Savar: Asma Afrin Shetu, a schoolteacher, was allegedly beaten to death by her husband in Anandapur City Lane area of Savar municipality at the outskirts of Dhaka on Monday night.

Police held Shetu’s husband, Murad Mia.

The victim’s family said following love affair, Asma Afrin, in her twenties, one year ago got married with Murad Mia, a resident of Chandpur. Both of them were students of Jagannath University.

After marriage, they lived a rented house in Dhaka.

Asma used to teach Bangla in Mirpur Cantonment School and College.

Few days ago, Asma along with her Murad went to visit her father’s residence in Anandapur area. Murad beat Asma to death at about 8:00pm over a family dispute. Later, he hanged Asma’s body from the ceiling fan and tried to run away from the spot. However, local people caught him and handed over to police after beating him.

Asma’s family claimed they were not present at home during the incident. Later, being informed by the neighbours, they rushed to the spot and took Asma to Anam Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.

The Savar Model Police recovered the body from Anam Medical College Hospital and sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy.

The Savar Model police senior assistant superintendent of police (ASP) Mahabubur Rahman said police is investigating the killing and taking actions to file a case in this connection.
