Italian killing: Charge framed against BNP leader Qaiyum, 6 others
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Tuesday framed charges against Dhaka city BNP’s joint convener MA Qaiyum and six others in a case filed in connection with the murder of Italian aid worker Tavella Cesare.
Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Kamrul Hossain passed the order rejecting the discharge petition by five of the accused.
The court also fixed 24 November for starting the hearing.
Six other accused are: Qaiyum’s brother Abdul Matin, Russel Chowdhury alias Chatki Russel, Minhazul Arefin Russel alias Bhagne Russel, Tamzid Ahmed Rubel alias Mobile Rubel alias Shooter Rubel, Shakhawat Hossain alias Sharif and Mohammad Sohel.
Among the accused Qaiyum and Sohel remain absconding.
Earlier, police submitted the charge sheet against them to a Dhaka court on 28 June.
On 28 September, 2015, Italian national Cesare Tavella, in his fifties, an official of the Netherlands-based non-governmental organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot to death by some miscreants at road no. 90 of the diplomatic zone, Gulshan.
