Cyclone ‘Kyant’ moves westwards
Dhaka: The cyclonic storm, ‘Kyant’, over the east central bay and adjoining area moved slightly westwards over the same area.
It was centring at 6:00pm on Tuesday about 595 kms south-southwest of Chittagong port, 520 kms south-southwest of Cox’s Bazar port, 615 kms south of Mongla port and 555 kms south of Payra port, said a Met office special bulletin.
It is likely to intensify further and move in a westerly direction, it said.
The maximum sustained wind speed within 54kms of the cyclone centre is about 62kph rising to 88kph in gusts/squalls. Sea will remain very rough near the storm centre.
The maritime ports of Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla and Payra have been asked to keep hoisted distant warning signal No 2.
All fishing boats and trawlers over the North Bay have been advised to remain close to the coast and proceed with caution until further notice.
