10 hurt in police firing during eviction drive

At least 10 people suffered injuries as police sprayed rubber bullets to disperse a mob during an eviction drive at the city’s Banani Supermarket on Thursday.
A mobile court, led by an executive magistrate, conducted the drive to evict illegal traders from Banani Supermarket in the morning.
Traders, who illegally run their business at the supermarket and its surrounding areas attacked the magistrate during the drive around 12:00 pm, said a DNCC official preferring anonymity.
At one stage, members of police from Public Order and Management (POM) sprayed rubber bullets to disperse the unruly traders, injuring 10-12 people, said officer-in-charge of Banani Police Station Bhuiyan Mahbub Hasan.
The injured people were taken to nearby Kurmitola General Hospital. Four of them—Zamal Hossain, 30, Minto Sarker, 28, Abdul Halim, 35, and Alamgir Hossain, 36,-- were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 3:00 pm.
