Dhaka: A 12-year-old child was allegedly raped by a man in the Bhatara area of Dhaka on Saturday night.

The child is attending treatment at One Stop Crisis Centre of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The victim’s family claimed Rashedul Islam, around 30 years, younger brother of local Awami League General Secretary Shahi, picked up the fifth grader from a shop near her house in Bhatara area while she was returning home with her elder sister after visiting one of her friend’s residence at about 8:30pm. On her way home, the child stopped to buy some necessary things from the shop while her sister went to home.

The victim’s relatives said that Rashed took her to a house in the area and raped her along with two of his assistants, Shahin and Nazmul.

Later, the minor’s relatives recovered her and took her to the hospital at about 2:00am in critical condition.

The Bhatara Police Officer-in-charge Mohammad Nurul Moktakim said after being reported about the rape the law-enforcers conducted drive to detain Rashidul.

Rashedul is still out of reach, said the OC. However, no cases were filed in this connection.
