Union Council Polls: AL bags 25 chairman posts, BNP 7
Dhaka: Awami League candidates won in 25 union councils (UCs) while its rebel candidates in eight, and BNP candidates in seven among some 400 UCs where the election was held on Monday.
According to reports of news agency UNB at about 1:00pm, AL candidates were elected unofficially in three UCs while rebel candidates in two among five UCs in Satkhira.
In Munshiganj, AL candidate won in one and rebel candidates in two UCs among four UCs.
In Kishoreganj, rebel candidate won in the mayoral election in Pakundia municipality while two AL candidates and two BNP candidates won in four UCs of Itna upazila.
In Rajshahi, AL candidates won in nine UCs while rebel candidates in two and BNP candidates in three.
AL candidate won in the election in Savar Sadar UC.
In Jessore, AL candidates won in two and rebel candidate of AL in one among three UCs.
In Panchagarh, AL candidates were elected unofficially in six, BNP and AL rebel candidate in one each among eight unions in Sadar, Boda and Debiganj upazila.
In Brahmanbaria, AL candidates won in two union parishad of Akhaura upazila.
In Bogra, BNP candidate won in Sonara UC in Gabtoli upazila.
In Sunamganj, AL and Jatiya Party candidates won in one UP each among two UCs.
Voters of some 100 ex-Indian enclaves exercised their franchise for the first time as the election of 22 union councils (UCs) in those areas was held on Monday morning.
The voting in the now-defunct enclaves was held simultaneously along with the polling in some 380 more UCs across the country.
In some 200 UCs, elections were held in a few polling stations where the voting was earlier cancelled during the staggered countrywide UP elections held earlier this year.
