Dhaka: The High Court will hear on 15 November an appeal filed by former President HM Ershad against the three years’ jail sentence awarded to him in 1992 in a corruption case.

An HC single bench comprising Justice Md Ruhul Quddus fixed the date on Tuesday, said Anti Corruption Commission lawyer Advocate Khurshid Alam Khan.

Advocate Sheikh Mohammad Sirajul Islam stood for Ershad.

On 8 January 1991, the then Anti Corruption Bureau filed a case against Ershad with Cantonment Police Station for misappropriating Tk 1.91 crore by misusing power while being the President of the state.

A Dhaka court in 1992 convicted the former President of the charge and sentenced him to three years’ imprisonment.

Later, Ershad filed a petition with the High Court against the sentence.

On 22 August last, the ACC moved the High Court for fixing a date for hearing the appeal filed Ershad against his jail term.
