Kushtia: A court in Kushtia on Tuesday convicted a man and sentenced him to life-term imprisonment for killing his wife in the district town in 2008.

The convict is Ershad Hossain Bipu, deputy assistant engineer of Bheramara Power Department.

The court also fined him Taka 50,000, in default, to suffer one more year of imprisonment.

According to the prosecution, Bipu burnt his wife Sikha to death by pouring kerosene at their residence on 6 April 2008, following his extra-marital affair.

Later victim’s father Sirajul Islam filed a case with Kushtia Model Police Station against Bipu, his younger brother Iftiar Hossain Biju and Rasheda Khatun, with whom Bipu had an extra-marital affair.

After examining records and witnesses, Md Barekuzzaman, District and Sessions Judge, handed down the verdict acquitting two others accused.
