Lawmaker Bodi gets 3 years in jail
Dhaka: A Dhaka court sentenced Awami League’s Cox’s Bazar 4 constituency Lawmaker Abdur Rahman Bodi to three years of imprisonment in a case for accumulating wealth beyond his known sources of income.
Dhaka Special Court-3 Judge Abu Ahmed Jamadar issued the order in the presence of the accused on Wednesday morning.
The court also fined him Tk 10 lakh, and he will have to suffer in jail for another six months in case of failure to pay the fine.
Earlier, on 19 October, the court fixed 2 November for delivering verdict in a case filed against the lawmaker after hearing arguments both from the prosecution and the defence.
Mahfuzur Rahman Likhon stood for Awami League lawmaker while Mahmud Hossain represented the ACC.
On 9 September 2015, a Dhaka court framed charges against Bodi in the case.
On 21 August 2014, the ACC filed the case with Ramna Police Station accusing Bodi, an MP from Cox’s Bazar-4, of amassing illegal wealth.
The Dhaka court sent Bodi to jail in the case rejecting his bail petition on 12 October 2014.
Later, the High Court granted a six months’ anticipatory bail to the accused MP on 27 October.
