Police to root out militancy from Bangladesh: DMP chief
Dhaka: Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mohammad Asaduzzaman Miah on Saturday said police will take all preparations to root out terrorism and militancy from Bangladesh.
“We must ensure security and safety of city dwellers. We will take all types of security measures in this regard and all the militancy and terrorism will be rooted out soon,” he said this while addressing in a certificates presentation programme to 20 newly joined Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) at Public Order Management Division of DMP at Mirpur-14.
Asaduzzaman Miah also noted that among the 70 existing SWAT members, 50 have been trained in the United Stated and the 20 new recruits will also be trained there.
“The number of the team members will be raised to 100 soon,” he added.
Responding to a question by a reporter about the denial of permission to BNP for holding any rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7-8, he said no political party will be allowed to hold any rally at Suhrawardy Udyan on November 7 or November 8 on public security ground.
Besides, the decision was made to avoid any untoward incident as the other political parties also sought permission for holding rally there on the same day, added the DMP commissioner
Proloy Kumar Zaorder, Deputy Commissioner of DMP (Action room) and Additional Commissioner Monirul Islam, chief of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, were present at the programme.
