BCL leader indicted for hacking college girl in Sylhet
Sylhet: Police on Tuesday submitted a charge-sheet against Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leader Badrul Alamin a case filed for trying to kill college girl Khadija Akter. Harunur Rashid, sub-inspector of Shahparan Police Station, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s (CMM’s) court.
The court fixed 15 November for hearing on the charge sheet. Earlier on October 5, Badrul Alam confessed to his crime before a Sylhet court.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Umme Sharban Tahura recorded Badrul’s statement under section 164.2.
AC (prosecution) of the court Touhudil Islam said, ‘Badrul confessed that he had stabbed Khadija.’
On 3 October, Khadiza, a year II Degree student of Sylhet Government Women’ s College, was hacked by Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) unit BCL leader Badrul Alam on her way home from MC College following the refusal of his proposal for having an affair with him.
Hearing the victim’s screams, other students rescued Khadiza and caught Badrul from the spot and handed him over to police after giving him a good thrashing.
Khadiza was first taken to Sylhet Osmani Medical College Hospital from where she was moved to Dhaka. She is now under treatment at the Square Hospitals.
