Dhaka: A police constable was arrested on charges of instigating his female colleague to commit suicide from Gazipur on Wednesday night.

The Ashulia Police Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohsinul Kader said police detained Constable Ziaur Rahman Zia from Gazipur at about 9:00pm on Wednesday for his alleged involvement in instigating another female constable to commit suicide.

The arrestee was sent to the court with an appeal for seven days in police custody for interrogation, said the OC.

Sabina Yeasmin, a 24-year-old police constable, was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her house on Wednesday.

Sabina left a note which held Zia responsible for her suicide. Narul Islam Liton, brother of the victim, filed a case with Ashulia Police in this connection.

In the case statement, it was alleged that Zia had developed an extramarital affairs with Sabina after hiding his marital status. She killed herself after knowing that Zia has wife and children.
