Dhaka: A woman and her granddaughter were killed in a road accident at Turag in Dhaka on Thursday night.

The deceased are Rizia Begum, in her sixties, a resident of Kurigram, and, her 4-year-old granddaughter Moni. Moni was a madrasa student in Turag’s Kamarpara. Rizia Begum came in Dhaka to visit Moni.

The Turag Police Sub-inspector Mamunur Rashid said a bus ran over Rizia Begum and Moni when they were crossing a road on Pratyasha Bridge at Kamarpara in Turag and left them dead on the spot.

Later, police seized the bus. However, the bus driver ran away from the spot immediately after the accident. The law enforcers are trying to hold him.

The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy at about 12:00midnight on Friday, said Mamunur Rashid.
