DU students block Shahbagh protesting Nasirnagar attack
Dhaka: Several hundred students of Dhaka University (DU) on Friday blocked Shahbagh intersection demanding immediate arrest of those involved in attacks on Hindu community in Nasirnagar upazila of Brahmanbaria, reports UNB.
A group of students under the banner of ‘General Students of Dhaka University’ brought out a procession at about 10:30am form the campus premises.
After parading Jatiya Press Club the rally reached Shahbagh intersection at about 11:30am where the protesters put up barricade on the busy road, halting vehicular movement.
Their other demands included immediate removal of Fisheries and Livestock Minister Muhammed Sayedul Hoque, reconstruction of the houses and the temples in Nasirnagar upazila by the government, establishing minority affairs ministry and commission.
The agitated students also burnt the effigy of Muhammed Sayedul Hoque during the protest.
Contacted, Officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Abu Bakar Siddiq said a long tailback was created on the roads around the intersection following the blockade.
