AL distorting history, alleges BNP

Dhaka: BNP on Friday alleged that Awami League is presenting a distorted history of the country before the young generation to hang onto power.

‘We want to stand up raising our heads high with our national tradition. We also want to present the country’s true history before the new generation, but they (AL) are giving them false idea and distorted history,’ said BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

He came up with the remark while speaking at a discussion at Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) arranged by Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, marking the November 7 as the ‘national revolution and solidarity day’, reports UNB.

The BNP leader also alleged that the government is not giving BNP permission for holding a rally at Suhrawardy Udyan as it fears people, their gatherings and November 7.

‘The government doesn’t want to hold a fair election as it fears people. It has removed the referendum system from the constitution for the same reason. Awami League has got such a politically bankrupt party that it now depends on law enforcers to stay in office getting isolated from people,’ he observed.

Narrating the background of the November 7, Fakhrul claimed that BNP founder Ziaur Rahman did not usurped power as the country’s people installed him in office.

He said Awami League has long been trying to make Ziaur Rahman a villain by denying his contributions to the Liberation War. ‘BNP neither wants to belittle Sheikh Mujibur Rahman nor denies his contributions. But, Awami League doesn’t recognise any contribution of Ziaur Rahman. Even it denies Tajuddin Ahmed’s contributions. Denying others’ contributions has become AL’s basic character.’

The BNP leader said Zia restored democracy, which had been snatched by Awami League in 1975, as he was a democracy-loving person.

Fakhrul called upon the leaders and activists of Mohila Dal to get united and mobilise public opinion against the ‘misdeeds and misrule’ of the government.
