Jessore: Six people were injured after reportedly being hit by a vehicle of Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal’s motorcade at Abhaynagar in Jessore on Sunday morning.
Two of the injured are in critical condition.
Four others injured are Sonia Begum, in his twenties, a resident of the village of Shankarpasha at Abhaynagar upazila, Asma Begum, around 30 years, a resident of the village of Dighirpar, Anjira Begum, in her forties, and Birendranath Datt, a resident of the village of Pabla under Dawlatpur thana in Khulna.
Local people said a motor convoy carrying the home minister from Jessore to Khulna hit six people as it neared Noorbagh crossing in Nowapara at about 10:15am.
Later, the local people recovered the injured and sent them to Khulna Medical College and Abhaynagar Health Complex.
However, the Abhaynagar highway police officer-in-charge KM Azizul Islam said vehicles of home minister’s motorcade were not involved in the accident.
The Abhaynagar police officer-in-charge Anisur Rahman said the accident took place when a public transport at high speed came across the road as it was emptied for the movement of home minister’s motorcade.
However, the agitated people blocked the Jessore-Khulna Highway for half-an-hour protesting the accident.
The home minister was on the way to attend Rash Mela, a big fair, organised at Dublar Char in Sundarbans.
