Dhaka: The Appellate Division on Sunday upheld a High Court order that stayed the suspension of Khulna city mayor Moniruzzaman Moni.

A four-member panel of Appellate Division headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha passed the order while dismissing a plea filed by the state seeking a stay on the High Court order.

Government suspended Moni as par the rule last year as charge-sheets were submitted against him in two criminal cases. Following a plea against the government order, the High Court stayed that suspension order on 7 June.

The state filed an appeal against the High Court order on 10 August.
