SC stays Manna’s bail till 27 November
Dhaka: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Monday issued a stay order till 27 November on a bail granted to Nagarik Oikya convener Mahmudur Rahman Manna in a case filed for instigating the army to topple the government.
A three member bench led by Chief Justice SK Sinha issued the order.
The bench also ordered the state to file a leave-to-appeal with a regular bench in this connection, said deputy attorney general Mohammad Bashirullah.
The High Court granted bail to Manna in the case on Thursday last.
Earlier on 30 August, the HC granted bail to Manna in another case filed against him with Gulshan Police Station in the city.
On 4 September, the HC stayed the bail of Manna in the sedition case following a petition by the state counsel and asked the state to file a leave-to appeal.
The two cases were filed with Gulshan Police Station on 24 February and 5 March last year on charges of provoking the army and sedition.
Manna was arrested on 24 February last year after two audio clips of his telephone conversations with BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka and another unidentified man were leaked.
