Fugitive accused in Garo woman rape case held again
Dhaka: Three days after his escape from the police custody, the prime accused in the case for raping a Garo woman in Dhaka’s Badda area was recaptured by the law enforcers from North Badda on Tuesday morning.
A team of Badda Police Station conducted a drive in the area and arrested the accused Rubel from in front of Subastu Tower at about 7:30am, according Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) media centre officials.
During primary investigation, Rubel confessed that after the escape, he took shelter at a mosque at the backside of the court. Later he covered his handcuff with a cloth taken from a shop and returned to Badda.
Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rubel, the prime accused in a case over the gang rape of a Garo woman, from Airport Rail Station area in Dhaka on Friday night.
Rubel, a resident of Mistritala of Uttar Badda, was later handed over to Badda Police Station on Saturday.
When sub-inspector Imran and Constable Dipak Chandra of Badda Police Station took Rubel to Dhaka court at noon for recoding his confessional statement, he escaped from their custody.
The victim was raped by four men on 25 October last while returning home from her workplace in the city.
Later, she filed a complaint with the police station on 28 October.
The victim, a beauty parlor employee, went to meet one of her friends at North Badda on 25 October. When she was returning from there, Rubel forcibly took her to a house at North Badda and raped her there along with his friends.
