Khulna: A young person was reportedly killed in a ‘gunfight’ and another was shot on Tuesday night after they, both are in their twenties, had been arrested in Khulna on charges of carrying illegal firearms.

Deceased Al Mamun was from the village of Barni at Rampal in Bagerhat.

His companion Omar Faruk is now undergoing treatment at Khulna Medical College Hospital. He is from Harintana area in Khulna.

Khulna Police officer-in-charge Sukumar Bishwas said the duo was held at Mistripara near Raypara Cross Road in the city.

They were passing the area on a rickshaw.

A patrol police team stopped them at about 2:00pm and searched their bags and seized three foreign pistols, a revolver and 21 bullets, he added.

Later police took them to Burirbagan area at Baghmara in the city to recover more illegal firearms. When they reached the scene, an armed team ambushed them. Mamun was shot as he tried to escape the scene, added the officer-in-charge.
