Khaleda Zia to sit with party policymakers Thursday
Dhaka: BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia is going sit with her party’s standing committee members on Thursday night before unveiling a proposal over the reconstitution of the Election Commission on Friday.
The meeting will be held at about 8:30pm at the BNP chief’s Gulshan political office in Dhaka, said BNP Chairperson’s media wing member Sayrul Kabir Khan.
‘The meeting will discuss the current political situation of the country and the proposal of the BNP chief going to be placed on Friday,’ he told UNB.
Khaleda Zia will unveil her party’s proposal over the reconstitution of the Election Commission at The Westin in Dhaka.
The five-year tenure of the present commission will expire on 8 February, 2017.
Party sources said the BNP chairperson, on behalf of the 20-Party Alliance, will also place a formula on how to hold a free, fair and inclusive national election.
Khaleda Zia may also propose names of dignitaries, retired justices, members of civil society and politicians to form the election-time government, party insiders said.
She is likely to propose a search committee comprising civil society members to find out neutral and competent persons for posts of the chief election commissioner and election commissioners.
