NCC polls observers need to apply by Thursday for permission
Dhaka: The organisations that observe polls will have to submit their applications to the Election Commission (EC) by Thursday to watch the Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) election slated for 22 December.
The organisations will have to submit their applications addressing the EC Secretary, said Assistant Director (PR) of the EC Secretariat Ashadul Haque.
As per the Election Observation Guidelines 2010, any interested observer organisation will have to apply to the EC within three days of the announcement of the election schedule, he said.
Meanwhile, the EC has asked the interested political parties to submit the names and signatures of the authorised persons who will certify their respective parties’ mayoral contestants in the NCC election to the returning officer within the seven days after the announcement of the polls schedule.
The political parties were also asked to send a copy of name and signature of the authorised person to the EC Secretariat, said an EC handout.
Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Monday announced the election schedule to arrange the NCC election on 22 December along party lines, the first such polls in any city corporation of the country.
In the NCC polls, political parties can field candidates alongside independent contestants for the mayoral post as per the latest amendment made in November last year to the Local Government (City Corporation) Act.
The deadline for the submission of nomination papers is 24 November, while the dates for the scrutiny of the nomination papers are 26 and 27 November and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is 4 December.
