Dhaka: The Cabinet Purchase Committee on Wednesday approved a total of 16 proposals, including extension of power purchase agreement (PPA) with six rental power plants for another five years.

At a meeting, the committee also gave the approval to a proposal for awarding contract to China Petroleum Pipeline Bureau (CPP) for installation of Single Point Mooring (SPM) with Double Pipe Line at a cost of $550.40 million.

As per the Power Division proposals, the government will buy electricity from each of the six rental power plants at a newly negotiated tariff value of over Tk 15 per unit. In the price composition, price of per litre furnace oil was considered at Tk 62 and US dollar price at Tk 80.

Earlier in the original contracts signed in 2010, the tariff value was fixed at about Tk 7.8 per unit (per kilowatt hour) where furnace oil price was quoted at Tk 26 per litre and price of US dollar was quoted at Tk 76.35.

All the six proposals were tabled in the meeting instantly avoiding the normal practice of sending those to the members of the committee one or two days ahead.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith presided over the meeting which was attended by the members of the committee and secretaries concerned.

The rental power plants along with per unit tariff are 102 MW Summit Narayanganj Power (Tk 15.45), 100 MW Orion Power Meghnaghat Ltd (Tk15.74), 100 MW Dutch-Bangla Power (Tk 15.74), 115 Khulna Power Unit-2 (Tk 15.33), 40 MW Khan Jahan Ali Power (Tk 15,74) and 100 MW Acorn Power Infrastructure (Tk 15.66).

As per the proposal, the premium was fixed at $2.30 per barrel for diesel, $3 per barrel for Jet A-1 fuel and $15.80 per metric ton for furnace oil.

The government will import a total of 1.04 million tonnes of diesel, 140,000 tonnes of furnace oil and 115,000 tonnes of Jet A-1 fuel during the January-June period of 2017.

A proposal for appointment of 10 C&F agents for Mongla port and nine C&F agents for Chittagong port for unloading and transportation related service of BADC for import of fertiliser in the next five years received the approval of the committee.
