Dhaka: A policeman was run over by a sand-laden truck at Gulistan in Dhaka in the early hours of Thursday.

The deceased is Mizanur Rahman, in his forties, an Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) of police.

Doctors declared the ASI dead after he was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said the Paltan police.

The Paltan police Officer-in-charge Rafiqul Islam said a sand-laden bus hit Mizanur near a park in the Gulistan area when he was going to join his assigned duty at Bangabhaban from his Jatrabari residence at about 12:30am.

Later, the pedestrians took him to the hospital, added Rafiqul Islam.

The OC said the truck driver ran away from the spot immediately after hitting the ASI.
