Savar: A fire broke out at a readymade garment factory in east Narsinghapur area of Ashulia at the outskirts of Dhaka city in the early hours of Friday.

The Ashulia Police Officer-in-charge (OC) Mohsinul Kadir quoting Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) fire fighters said the fire originated at a storeroom in the ground floor of eight-story building of Medlar Apparels Limited at about 1:00am.

Primarily, four units of DEPZ fire service tried to bring the fire under control. Later, two units from Gazipur’s Tongi, and a unit from Savar joined the operation, and doused the fire after four hours of effort at about 5:00am.

However, no casualties were reported in the fire incident. The reason behind the fire could not be known immediately.

The garment factory authorities said the amount of damages caused by the fire was not measured yet.
