Jhalakathi: Two cases were filed on Thursday night over an attack over the temple of Goddess Kali and vandalism of idol in Jhalakathi city.

The temple committee General Secretary Pranab Kumar Nath Bhanu filed a case with Jhalakathi sadar police against eight named and around 25 unidentified people over the attack.

On the other hand, rice trader Dulal Debnath filed another case against eight named and around 50 unidentified.

The Jhalakathi Sadar police Officer-in-charge Mohammad Mahe Alam police have already started their investigation in the cases.

However, the district administration’s investigation committee started probe on Friday morning. The probe-committee chief Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mohammad Mokbul Hossain visited the spot and talked to the local people.

He said the committee will submit its probe report within seven days.

Police said situation of the area is now under control. Adequate numbers of police have been deployed to the spot to evade further occurrences.

Earlier, on 16 November, a group of local traders attacked a temple of Goddess Kali and vandalised idols of Hindu gods while the believers were praying at a city in Jhalakathi.

Around eight people including police members were injured as a clash erupted between the attackers and law enforcers following the attack. The injured were taken to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital.

Local people said the temple authorities had a land related dispute with a group of rice traders.

Pranab Kumar Nath Bhanu said the temple came under attack following a previous clash with the rice traders in the neighbourhood.
