2 traffic constables held in Dhaka for mugging trader
Dhaka: Two traffic policemen were arrested at Karwanbazar in Dhaka on Friday on charge of trying to snatch valuables from an egg trader, reports UNB.
The arrestees are constables Latifuzzaman and Raziqul who were posted in Traffic North Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police.
Quoting witnesses, police said egg trader Abdul Bashir was returning to his wholesale shop ‘Shah Ali Dimer Arat’ in Tejgaon Railway Station area in a rickshaw van early in the morning after delivering eggs in Lalbagh.
As he reached Sonargaon Hotel intersection, two uniformed policemen stopped him there and started looting his belongings, including Tk 4,400 in cash.
However, he managed to catch Latifuzzaman and raised an alarm while Raziqul fled the scene.
Hearing his screams, policemen, who were on duty in the nearby area, rushed in and took the constable to Shahbagh Police Station.
Contacted, officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station Abu Bakar Siddique said Latiufuzzaman during preliminary interrogation confessed to his involvement in the snatching bide. ‘We arrested Raziqul from Gulshan Traffic North Office as per information of Latifuzzaman,’ he said.
Bashir filed a case accusing the detained police constables in this regard.
