Dhaka: Incumbent Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) mayor Selina Hayat Ivy has got the Awami League ticket to contest for the mayoral post in the upcoming NCC polls billed for December 22.

The Local Government Election Nomination Board of the ruling party chose Ivy at a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s official residence Ganobhaban on Friday with party chief and PM Sheikh Hasina in the chair.

‘The party has decided to give the nomination to Selina Hayat Ivy for the NCC polls,’ AL deputy office secretary Barrister Biplab Barua told news agency UNB over telephone.

As per the schedule, the deadline for the submission of nomination papers is 24 November, while the date for the scrutiny of the nomination papers is on 26-27 November and the last date for the withdrawal of candidature is 4 December.

The maiden election to NCC was held on 30 October 2011 when Ivy was elected the country's first female city mayor defeating Awami League-backed Shamim Osman. BNP-blessed mayoral candidate Taimur Alam Khandaker had quit the race hours before the voting.

This is for the first time, voting in the NCC will be held on party line.
