Dhaka: Rafsan Rahman Rubel, the prime accused in the Garo woman gang rape case, made his confessional statement before a court in Dhaka on Sunday.

Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury recoded his statement after BM Mamun, sub-inspector of Badda Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced him before the court on the expiry of his six-day remand.

Earlier on November 11, members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) arrested Rubel, son of Mafij Uddin Miah of Mistritala, Hasan Uddin Road of Uttar Badda, from the Airport Railway Station area of the capital.

When sub-inspector Imran and constable Dipak Chandra of Badda Police Station had taken Rubel to a court here for recoding his confessional statement, he escaped from their custody on that day.

Later, a team of Badda Police Station rearrested him in front of Suvastu Tower on November 15, three days after his escape.

The Garo woman, a resident of Khilkhet area in the capital who used to work at a beauty parlour, was raped on October 26 last by four youths while returning home from her workplace.

Later, she lodged a complaint with the police station on October 28.
