Lawmaker Haroon sued for cheque fraudulence
Dhaka: A Dhaka court on Sunday summoned Awami League lawmaker Bazlul Haque Haroon to appear before it on February 7 in a case filed over Tk 1-crore cheque fraudulence.
Judge of the Metropolitan Magistrate Court Mahmudul Hasan passed the order after taking cognisance of the charge in the case filed earlier in the day.
Khalilur Rahman, joint general secretary of Anwar Hossain Monju-led Jatiya Party, filed the case against Haroon, an MP from Jhalakati-1 constituency and chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Religious Affairs Ministry.
According to the case statement, Haroon borrowed money from Khalilur in different times for business purposes. On September 25 last, the ruling party MP gave him a cheque for Tk 1 crore.
However, the cheque bounced when he went to a private bank on September 26 to withdraw the money.
Complainant’s counsel SM Shawkat Hossain Miah said Khalilur had filed another cheque fraudulent case against the MP which is now under trial with Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-10.
