President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Monday paid their homage to members of the Armed Forces, who made supreme sacrifices in the 1971 Liberation War, by placing wreaths at the Shikha Anirban (Eternal Flame) at Dhaka Cantonment in the morning on the Armed Forces Day, reports UNB.

The President, who is also the Supreme Commander of Armed Forces, placed wreaths at the altar of Shikha Anirban in Tejgaon Old Airport area at 8:00am and stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the martyrs.

A smartly turned out contingent of the army, the navy and the air force presented a salute on the occasion.

Later, President Abdul Hamid signed the visitors’ book on the Old Airport premises.

Earlier on his arrival, chiefs of the three services and the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division received the President.

Prime Minister Hasina also paid floral tributes to the war heroes.

They were followed by Army Chief General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq, Navy Chief Admiral Mohammad Nizamuddin Ahmed and Air Force Chief Air Chief Marshal Abu Esrar in performing the ritual on behalf of their respective forces.
