Tampaco fire: Owner, 7 others surrender, seek HC bail
Dhaka: Eight people, including 'Tampaco Foils' factory chairman Syed Makbul Hossain, surrendered before the High Court on Monday, seeking bail in a murder case filed over the inferno at the factory.
An HC bench comprising Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Zafar Ahmed partly heard the appeal fixing Tuesday for the next hearing.
The others who surrendered before the court are Tampaco managing director and Makbul’s son Tanvir Ahmed, wife Sajeda Parvin Hossain, director and daughter Adiba Parvin, general manager Shafiqur Raman, manager (admin) Monir Hossain, DMD Alamgir Hossain and manager Abul Hanif.
Abdul Baset Majumdar and Mahbub Ali stood for the accused while assistant attorney general Bashir Ahmed represented the state.
Thirty-nine people were killed and over 50 others injured as a devastating fire raged through 'Tampaco Foils' factory, owned by former BNP MP Syed Makbul Hossain, in Tongi BSCIC Industrial area in the early hours of September 10.
Two cases were filed against 10 people with Tongi Police Station in connection with the incident.
