Dhaka: Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) on Tuesday urged people to raise their voice against the proposed coal-based Rampal power plant.

The left-leaning party came up with call at a street rally at Paltan intersection in the morning.

CPB leaders Ruhin Hossain Prince, Musleah Uddin, Jahid Hossain Khan, Sekandar Hayet, Manabendra Dev and Delwar Hossain, among others, spoke at the really.

The CPB leaders said it is the duty of all to save the world’s largest mangrove forest Sundarbans as it protects the coastal people.

They said the Sundarbans is a Unesco world heritage site and the nature will lose an unique ecosystem and biodiversity if the forest is destroyed.

Unesco has already voiced concern over the construction of Rampal power plant and that is why the government should relocate it to another place from Bagerhat, they said.

The CPB leaders also called upon people to join a public rally to be arranged by the National Committee to Protect Oil, Gas, Mineral Resources, Power and Ports on November 26 next which aims to resist the construction of Rampal power plant.
