Girl injured in factory fire dies at DMCH

A teenager girl who sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a match factory in Ashulia of Savar upazila on Tuesday, died at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) on early Wednesday.

The deceased is as Ankhi, believed to be 15.

Ankhi, who received 80 per cent burn injuries, died at the burn unit of DMCH at about 4:00am, said sub-inspector DMCH police camp in-charge Bacchu Miah, reports UNB.

Earlier, 30 female workers, including Ankhi sustained burn injuries in a fire that broke out at a warehouse of ‘Colour Match BD’ at Jirabo Fulbagan in Ashulia at about 4:30pm on Tuesday.

Soon the fire engulfed the entire tin-roofed factory as there were huge flammable objects, including chemicals, at the factory.

On information, eight fire-fighting units rushed to the spot and brought the fire under control at about 6:30pm.

The firefighters along with locals rescued at least 30 injured female workers from the factory and took them to a nearby hospital.

Of them, 22 were later sent to the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH).
