Two arrested over Dutch envoy’s stolen handbag
Dhaka: Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on Wednesday arrested two people from the city on charges of involvement in stealing the handbag of the Dutch envoy from Dhaka University campus.
The arrestees were identified as Rubel, 20, and Shaon, 21.
The handbag of Netherlands ambassador Leoni Margaretha Cuelenaere was stolen when she was attending a programme at the Faculty of Fine Arts on November 21.
A case was filed with Shahbagh police station in connection with the incident.
Based on secret information, a special DB team raided Shanir Akhra area at about 9:00am and arrested Rubel.
According to his statement, the DB team arrested Shaon from a mobile phone set shop of Bashundhara Shopping Mall of Panthapath.
Briefing reporters at DMP media centre on Wednesday afternoon, Joint Commissioner (DB) of DMP Abdul Baten said they were arrested based on information after scrutinizing video footage.
According to statement of Rubel, the detectives also recovered the stolen handbag, passport, a tab gadget and mobile phone sets from the shop of Bashundhara shopping mall, from where Shaon was arrested.
Arrested Rubel is a driver. He hailed from Barisal, the Joint Commissioner (DB) said.
