Chittagong: Transport owners and workers blocked Dhaka-Chittagong Highway in Colonelhat area of city on Thursday protesting the assault of a bus driver by a police constable.

Several hundred workers blocked the highway and staged demonstration around 12pm.

Witnesses said that the police constable physically assaulted the bus driver of Sitakunda route over illegal parking which sparked protest among the other transport drivers and workers.

They took position on the highway and blocked it for an hour.

On information police rushed to the spot.

Following an assurance of police, they withdrew their blockade from the highway, said Masud-Ul-Hasan, additional Commissioner (traffic) of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP).
