4 held over attack on Taiwanese couple
Dhaka: Members of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) on Thursday night arrested four people, including a woman, from Dhaka city’s Uttara area in connection with the attack on a Taiwanese couple a year ago.
The arrestees were Md Saju Miah, 28, Md Laju Miah, 30, Md Obaidul Haque alias Swapan, 24, and Halima Begum, 45.
Tipped off, a team of Rab raided a house in Azampur area at about 10:30pm and arrested them, said sources at the RAB headquarters.
During preliminary interrogation, the arrestees confessed to their involvement in the attack on Wang Ming Chee and his wife Lily Hawa at their Uttara residence on November 5, 2015.
Halim used to work as a domestic help at the flat of the Taiwanese couple while others were former employees of their company. They had dispute with the couple over salary.
Saju, Laju and Swapan decided to loot the house over the dispute and used Halima to make duplicate keys of the flat.
Finally, they stormed the flat of the Taiwanese couple on November 5, 2015 and looted Tk 6 lakh.
They also hit them with bamboo sticks, leaving them injured.
Wang Ming Chee and Lily Hawa had been admitted to United Hospital from where the latter was released later.
However, Wang Ming Chee had been taken to Taiwan after few days. Since then, he has been on life support for last one year.
