33 Gaibandha Santal men get HC bail
Dhaka: The High Court on Sunday granted bail to 33 Santal men for eight weeks in a case filed over attacking police during a clash with the law enforcers and workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill in Gobindaganj upazila on November 6.
An HC bench comprising Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice JBM Hassan passed the order when the Santal community people appeared before the court and sought bail, reports UNB.
On November 6, two Santal men were killed and 20 people, including nine policemen, injured in a series of clashes following an attempt by sugar mill workers of Rangpur Sugar Mill to evict the Santals from the mill area with the help of the law enforcers in Gobindaganj upazila.
Kalyan Kumar Chakrabwarty, sub-inspector of Gobindaganj Police Station, filed a case against 42 Santal men in this connection.
