Dhaka: The Appellate Division of Supreme Court on Monday upheld a High Court order that had suspended the proceedings of a graft case against BNP leader Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Annie for amassing wealth beyond known sources of income.

A four-member SC bench headed by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha issued the order on a petition filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Advocate Joynul Abedin and Jahirul Islam Sumon stood for Annie while Khurshid Alam Khan for the ACC.

On 1 September, the High Court suspended the proceedings of the corruption case.

Later, the ACC filed a petition seeking a stay order.

The anti-graft body filed the case with Ramna Police Station against the former Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal president on 9 October, 2014.

Charges were pressed against him at the court on 18 June, 2015.

The chargesheet said the BNP leader had withheld information of wealth worth over Tk 13.1lakh in the statement he submitted to the Commission.

It said he also owned assets valued more than Tk 104lakh beyond his known sources of income.
