Rid Pharma officials acquitted of toxic paracetamol case
Dhaka: A Dhaka court acquitted five officials of Rid Pharmaceuticals Limited over manufacturing toxic paracetamol syrup that claimed at least 28 children’s lives in 2009.
Judge Ataur Rahman of drug court issued the order on Monday.
The acquitted are Rid Pharma Managing Director Mizanur Rahman, directors Sheuli Rahman, who is also the wife of Mizanur Rahman, Abdul Gani and pharmacists Mahbubul Islam and Enamul Haque.
Earlier on 10 August, 2009, drug superintendent Shafiqul Islam filed the case with the Dhaka Drug Court against them.
The children died of renal failures, caused by the intake of Rid’s paracetamol syrup, from June to August in 2009.
In his complaint, Shafiqul Islam said several children died at Shishu Hospital of Sher-e-Bangla Nagar in the city due to renal failure after the intake of paracetamol manufactured by Rid Pharma.
